Karpaty is a Garmin Connect IQ watch app that shows your position against the network of PTTK hiking trails in the Carpathian mountains. Below is a precise description of what data is processed and how.
GPS Location
The app reads your GPS location directly on the watch solely to draw it on the trail map. Location data is processed LOCALLY on the watch and is never sent to any server of ours — we do not operate any backend that could receive it. Your last known position is cached locally in the watch's own storage (Application.Storage) so the app can show a map immediately on launch, before a fresh GPS fix is acquired.
Activity Recording (PRO feature)
If you start recording a hike, the app uses Garmin's native recording mechanism (Toybox.ActivityRecording) to save a FIT file. This file syncs to Garmin Connect Mobile / Garmin Connect under Garmin's own privacy policy — we have no access to this data and it never passes through any infrastructure of ours.
License Key (PRO feature)
The license key that unlocks PRO features is verified locally on the watch.
Buying a PRO Key
If you buy a PRO key through our website (karpaty.app), payment is handled by a third-party processor (Gumroad) under its own privacy policy. To deliver your purchased key, we may process your email address — solely for that purpose, never for marketing or sharing with other third parties, and not retained longer than necessary to fulfill your purchase.
What We Don't Do
- We do not collect any analytics or usage statistics.
- The app contains no ads and no third-party trackers.
- We do not sell or share any data with third parties.
- The app's free features (map, position, trails) require no account or registration.
